POPI Act South Africa

The POPI Act has been signed into law and commenced on the 1st of July 2020. Companies have until the 1st of July 2021 to fully implement all provisions of the Act into their business.

This is an ongoing requirement that will require regular auditing once implemented.

So, what are the four key things the Information Regulator will look for?

  1. Have you appointed an Information Officer (IO) and do they fully understand their responsibilities?
  2. Have you created a Privacy Risk Assessment?
  3. Have you taken reasonable steps to rectify the gaps and risks identified?
  4. Have you provided certified training for your staff on the POPI Act?
